This 10 day Tanzania cultural safari lets the people of the north share the stage with its wildlife. You meet Maasai, Hadzabe, Datoga and Chagga hosts, and between those visits you see elephants in Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and a full day in the Central Serengeti. The route runs from Arusha to Moshi, with full board, a private vehicle and a local driver guide.
On day two you visit a Maasai community and learn how cattle, family and neighbours shape everyday life. At Lake Eyasi you meet Hadzabe hunter-gatherers and Datoga herders and blacksmiths, and in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area you see how the Maasai share the land with wildlife. Our guide to Maasai cultural experiences and the cultural experiences page explain how we arrange the visits.
The wildlife days balance that. Tarangire is known for its elephants and baobabs, Ngorongoro Crater holds a dense mix of animals on its floor, and the Central Serengeti rewards a full day with a guide. Read our Serengeti safari guide and the Great Migration month-by-month guide. Your last day brings you to Chagga land at the base of Kilimanjaro for coffee. See the Tanzania destination page for the wider picture.

Easy to moderate. Almost all wildlife viewing is from the vehicle. The cultural visits involve walking on village paths, farmland and uneven ground, and the Hadzabe visit can become more active if the group follows the community into the bush. The challenge is the roads. Karatu to the Central Serengeti takes four to five hours, and Central Serengeti to Arusha and on to Moshi takes up to seven hours plus another hour and a half, so day nine is a long day. Guests who need accessibility adjustments should tell us before booking.

June to October is the driest season and the best for game viewing in Tarangire and the Serengeti. January and February are also dry. The long rains from March to May make some tracks muddy and Lake Eyasi harder to reach, but the countryside is green and the lodges are quiet. Seasonal wildlife movements, including the Great Migration, change from year to year, so treat any sighting as a possibility, not a promise.
This trip suits curious travellers who want conversations as well as sightings: couples, friends and families with teenagers who are comfortable with long drives. For a shorter version see the 5-day Tanzania cultural experiences tour. For a bigger wildlife route see the 11-day Tanzania Big Five safari or the 9-day Great Migration safari.
