Overview

This is an amazing part of Africa that you can visit on a 7-day Bwindi gorilla trekking safari. It has ancient rainforest, open savanna, waterways full of wildlife, and living cultural traditions. Although Tanzania and Kenya are known for their large plains and classic safari landscapes, Uganda offers something very different: you can go from a mountain gorilla forest to a normal wildlife park and then to a private chimpanzee trekking forest without leaving Uganda.

The way you feel will change all the time. In Bwindi, the air will be cool and damp because of all the thick vegetation. Birds will be singing from above, and narrow trails will disappear between big trees and vines. In a little while, Queen Elizabeth National Park will open up again, showing wide grasslands, faraway hills, and animals moving across the horizon. The Kazinga Channel tour will give you a different view by putting you close to hippos, crocodiles, and other animals that are gathering by the water. Bwindi is one of the biologically diverse forests in Africa and that it is home to about half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas.

The perfect mix of adventure and relaxation makes this 7-day Uganda gorilla safari so appealing. Trekking with gorillas and chimpanzees will be the most physically demanding parts of the trip. Some of the longest road trips will be cut out by taking domestic flights. You will still go slowly enough to see rural Uganda, but you won't have to waste valuable vacation time sitting in a car when it would be better to fly.

The package will also bring both people and animals together. The Batwa cultural experience will give the forest an important human touch, and expert guides will do not only point out species; they will also help you understand how animals behave. We will choose comfortable and cozy accommodations that offer friendly service, private facilities, and useful locations. These choices will keep the overall cost of the safari much lower than many luxury options. Once you book, the names of the hotels and lodges will be confirmed and sent to you based on availability, your travel dates, and the final trekking sector.

Uganda is a great place to visit any time of the year, and the gorilla permit for foreigners who don't live in the country costs US$800.

Diffuculity Level

Overall, this safari will be moderate. The most physically demanding activity will be going on a gorilla trek. UWA says that moderate fitness is needed to go gorilla trekking in Uganda, and that a trek can last anywhere from two to seven hours, depending on where the gorilla group is and how they move. Mountain ranges in Bwindi are between 1,160 and 2,607 meters above sea level. The landscape has steep ridges, deep valleys, thick vegetation, muddy trails, and roots that stick out.

For the Batwa cultural experience, you may have to walk on uneven ground, and for Kyambura chimpanzee tracking, you will have to go into and climb out of a gorge. The rest of the activities, like the boat cruise, safari vehicle drives, and relaxing time at the lodge, will be easier on the body. A good cardiovascular fitness level, a sturdy walking boot, and regular walking practice before a trip will make the active days a lot easier.

Under UWA rules, you have to be at least 15 years old to go gorilla trekking and 12 years old to go chimpanzee tracking. Guests who may be sick should not go trekking, and they should carefully follow all of the rangers' instructions. Visitors must also stay at 10 miters distance from the gorillas and chimpanzees.

People who have trouble moving around should let us before confirmation. The forest terrain in Bwindi and the gorge terrain in Kyambura are not made for easy, level access. The itinerary will offer a good mix of adventure and relaxation forguests who are used to walking on uneven ground.
