This 10 day Tanzania safari and Zanzibar beach holiday puts the safari first and the coast after. You travel through Tarangire, the Ngorongoro highlands and the Serengeti, then fly to Zanzibar where the schedule allows, and spend the last three days on the coast with options for Stone Town and a spice experience. The order is deliberate: you finish the early starts and then rest. Park fees, game drives and a private 4x4 with fuel and a driver guide are included for the safari.

You can do nothing on the beach, which is a reasonable response to four days in a vehicle, or spend one day in Stone Town with a local guide and another on a spice farm, where you see cloves, vanilla and cinnamon growing. Easy. Most days are spent in a vehicle or by the water, and the only demanding part is the long road to the Serengeti and the early crater start. The flight to Zanzibar depends on a suitable service and light baggage allowance, so pack soft bags. Zanzibar is hot and humid, and mid-afternoon is for the shade.

For the safari, June to October is the driest and best period, with January and February also good. For the beach, the coast is usually at its best in the dry months of June to October and December to February, while the long rains, roughly March to May, bring heavy showers and quieter beaches.
