This 6 day Uganda chimpanzee tracking safari moves from forest to savannah in a straight line. You drive from Entebbe to Kibale Forest, track chimpanzees on day three, continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drives, and finish with a cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Park fees, the chimpanzee permit, full board and a private 4x4 with fuel and a driver guide are included, and the return to Entebbe can be a short flight or a road day, planned in advance.

The first half of the trip is the forest. Kibale is among the best places in East Africa to find chimpanzees, and the park has a high number of primate species. Tracking starts after a briefing at the park office, and the walk can be anything from an hour to half a day depending on where the chimpanzees fed that morning. When you find them, you stay for an hour, watching from below as they feed, call and move through the canopy. The second half is open country. Queen Elizabeth National Park has savannah, crater lakes and the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake George and Lake Edward, and it is known for elephants, buffalo, kob, hippos and, with luck, lions. Moderate. Chimpanzee tracking is the demanding part: the forest trail is steep, wet and uneven, and you may need to move quickly if the chimpanzees do. June to August and December to February are the main dry seasons, and the trails are easiest then. The wet seasons, March to May and September to November, make the forest greener and the paths slippery, but chimpanzee tracking still runs and the park is quieter.
