This 8 day private luxury Tanzania safari is built around your party and nobody else. You travel in a private 4x4 with your own driver guide, stay in upper-tier lodges near the wildlife, and move through Tarangire, the Ngorongoro highlands and the Serengeti at a pace that never involves a pre-dawn start after a long drive. A picnic lunch keeps you in the Serengeti through the middle of the day, and a scheduled flight to Arusha where operating takes the place of a long road return.
The structure is easy to describe: elephants first, a crater in the middle and the plains last. Tarangire is where you settle in, with baobabs, elephant herds and a quieter feel. The Ngorongoro highlands come next, and the day after a lodge morning you go down into the crater. Then comes the long transfer to the Serengeti, with wildlife on the way, and a full day on the plains with a picnic lunch. Each stage is followed by a lighter day, which is what you pay for beyond the park fees: fewer hours in the vehicle and more at the sightings. Read how to plan a luxury safari in Tanzania and what a luxury safari in Tanzania costs.

A table set for lunch on the plains.
The private vehicle changes how the days feel. Your driver guide decides with you when to leave, how long to stay at a sighting and when to rest, and nobody is waiting for you. The lodges are confirmed upon booking, because the best option depends on your dates and where the animals are, and we choose from the upper tier near the sightings. See the guide to the best luxury eco-lodges in Tanzania. Browse the game drives page and the Tanzania destination page.
Easy. You see the wildlife from the vehicle, and nothing demands fitness beyond the ability to sit for several hours on rough roads. The Serengeti transfer on day six is long, and we plan wildlife stops along the way. The flight on day eight depends on a suitable service, and if none operates, we arrange a longer road transfer and an extra night. Tell us about any mobility or health needs, so that we plan accordingly.

Elephants at the end of the day.
The dry season, from about June to October, is the most dependable for game viewing, and the Serengeti and Tarangire are at their best. January and February are also dry and good for the crater. The long rains, from about March to May, are green and quiet, and rates for upper-tier lodges are often lower. Tell us your month, and we will explain what to expect and how to set the route.
This tour suits couples, honeymooners, small families and friends who want to travel privately and comfortably. It is a good first safari for travellers who want to be looked after. If you prefer a mid-range version with the same parks, see the 11-day Tanzania Big Five safari. For a longer migration-focused trip, see the 14-day Great Migration safari with Zanzibar.
Tell us your dates, who is travelling and what matters most, and we will describe what the upper tier looks like in your month. We advise on visas free of charge and confirm lodges and the flight once you book. Read whether Tanzania or South Africa is better for a luxury safari.
